Mikhail Kalashnikov, Soviet Inventor of the AK-47, Dies at 94

Mikhail Kalashnikov, the Soviet general who designed the ubiquitous automatic weapon that now bears his name, died on Dec. 23 at the age of 94. Iterations of the gun he invented now exist in the tens of millions, making it the most popular rifle in the wars of the latter half of the 20th century. A former Soviet tank gunner of humble Siberian origins, Kalashnikov submitted his prototype as part of a competition held to design a new Soviet infantry rifle in the waning moments of World War II. The AK-47 was born: a lightweight automated gun that was both easy to use and maintain. As C.J. Chivers — the New York Times journalist and author of a book on the history of the AK-47 — writes, Soviet infantry first wielded these rifles during the brutal crackdown on the Hungarian uprising in 1956. It was “repression’s chosen weapon, the rifle of the occupier and police state,” writes Chivers. But it was also the chief instrument of a new generation of global conflict. Use of the weapon first spread along ideological lines, proliferating among armies and militias that had common cause with the Soviet Union. It sprung up in Vietnam in the 1960s and made its way to insurgencies in Africa and Latin America. The flag of Mozambique — an ensign adopted after the successful struggle of leftist guerrillas against Portuguese colonial rule — still features an AK-47 armed with a bayonet. Subsequent models and versions of the gun mushroomed elsewhere. It became synonymous with the activities of militant groups. In the 1980s, mujahedin brandishing Kalashnikovs clashed with the Soviet army occupying Afghanistan and, to this day, the culture that spawns the Taliban’s foot soldiers is branded with a telling alliteration: the Koran and the Kalashnikov. Kalashnikov, the man himself, remained through his life a figure of Soviet and later Russian nationalism. He still professed loyalty to Lenin and Stalin, despite losing family members to Siberian prisons. He also claimed the creation of his weapon was not for offensive purposes, but the “defense of the motherland” — no matter that there’s now virtually no place on earth not in range of a Kalashnikov’s muzzle.

Message From The ASUU President

Dear Comrades, As the struggle to save Nigerian University system is being pursued, I'll like to salute all our members for their resoluteness in ensuring that the 2009 ASUU/Government Agreement is implemented in accordance with the Roadmap defined by the 2012 MoU. We believe very strongly that the rot and decay in the University System is not only arrestable but also reversible. We believe even more strongly that, the key to turning round the University System lies in the sincere implementation of the Agreement.

What government has so far been doing is no more than a repeat performance of a one- act-play: all the deceptions, propaganda, lies, mischiefs and such other Shenanigans were tried by previous Governments,
including Military Juntas, but our resolve to save the University System and our Country remained unwaivered.

We will continue to carry the banner of this struggle to its logical conclusion. I urge all our members to maintain the spirit of camaraderie and remain
firmly resolute in ensuring that our patriotic struggle succeeds. United we Bargain, Divided we
Beg!

A Must Read: How Fami-Kayode's Wife And Daughters Slept With Atiku, OBJ, Shama And Others Under Femi's Nose

**His daughters makes love to themselves and their father has caught them in different occasions. **"Fani Kayode's wives and daughters are all sex machines, I have slept with them many times, while Femi sleeps with other women, Married and Unmarried". Femi has finally displayed his wealth of Idio-stupidity, hence his immoral house hood chapter is hereby opened. 1. I have been in dispute with Femi since September 2011 over personal issues. 2. I worked with ObJ between, 2004 to 2007 (Second term) as private in house Agent before leaving to back to Canada in late 2007. 3. I have known Femi since 2002; we first met during an evening Private meeting, on a Sunday at Otta (OBJ’s Parlor). 4. Femi never hide his s*xual taste on women (both single and Married. And in many occasions with OBJ, OBJ stylishly joke over Femi’s unending libido on women who rush for assistance, favor or help in Abuja. 5. OBJ calls him “Woman Rapper” and usually warn him to be careful. 6. Many of us including his Aides and OBJ’s Aides knew that Femi is usually on drugs. 7. I can categorically state that Femi has slept with the lady (Adaobi Uchegbu) he mentioned on his FB wall, I don’t know about Miss Chioma Anasoh, I have never heard or seen her before but I say he’s only dreaming of sleeping with Bianca. I believe he’s only lying or trying to make his petition against Ibos strong by dragging Bianca to his chains and lists of banged women. Throughout my time with them (OBJ, Atiku, Imoke and Femi), I have never seen or heard of any relationship between him and Bianca. It would be surprising to know that Femi has never in his life met Bianca, because Femi is very good at lies. 8. No doubt Femi has slept with many Nigerian women (Yoruba, Hausa, Ibo, IJaw etc); Married and Unmarried women. 9. He was not only the person that slept with Adaobi Ukaegbu. I have done it with her severally even when Femi was poking her day and night in Abuja. Even many security men have done it with her under Femi’s nose. So I don’t think Femi should make noise about Adaobi. Adaobi to security men who have banged her severally in and outside Villa was seen as one of those Abuja Prostitutes. She and many other ladies even from south west, South-East, South-south and North were just popular to many of us as political sex hankers. Anyone can bang Adaobi and others even just by mentioning that you are a son to a local government chairman, but you must be ready. 10. She (Adaobi) is not alone in warming of Abuja men’s bed, many Yoruba, Hausa, Tiv, Edo etc were all in the same business of being fucked for one favor or the other. Today, many of them were lucky to head or work in one office or the other as they continue their political bed warming in Abuja. 11. Unfortunately, what Femi doesn’t know is that; while he was busy messing up with people’s wives, girls friends, others were also busy fucking his house hood (his wife and female children) under his nose. 12. I can authoritatively inform you that in two different occasions in 2006; one in Abuja and the other in Saudi Arabia, Former VP (Atiku) wiped Regina (Femi’s wife). Madam Regina Fani-Kayode is also a hot pant and money hunger just like her husband Femi. 13. Femi has five beautiful daughters and I can authoritatively inform you that OBJ has severally slept with Regina and Oluwafolake (Femi’s first daughter). 14. Femi’s daughters; Oluwafolake, who’s mostly called (Folake) and Oluwatemitope who’s mostly called (Temi) are Bi-Sex, and worst of it they are into incest relationship. Two one them have been caught severally making things out on the bed by their own father, who is also crazy about sex and drugs. 15. I, personally have banged Folake, and Temi, but my other colleague has banged Femi’s second to the youngest daughter of his second divorced wife; Oluwatobiloba, who at her prime age love sex more than food. 16. Femi might be aware of the sexual relationship between his wife, daughter with OBJ. He has in some occasions quarreled with Regina and threatens her of Divorce, but for the sake of OBJ and his job, Femi kept mute. 17. In October 2010 during Femi’s private dinner for his 50th birthday, Regina went home with OBJ and spent the Night with him while Femi was busy bedding Adaobi who assisted very well for the social event. Adaobi case nearly destroyed Femi’s home as his wife usually use her as an excuse of sexual immorality even with young campus boys and ex-boy friends. 18. In 2007, one of the security men who has severally banged Femi’s daughter Temi was caught happily showcasing his big black dick to another Femi’s daughter Oluwatuminu during her holiday break, which she admired with smile. They were caught on a newly installed CCTV and the young man was fired thereafter. 19. The only daughter from Regina was the only decent girl in Femi’s house, although she’s still growing up. 20. There’s trouble in Femi’s house hood over madness of immorality sexual relationship and drug addicts. Femi has personally told me when things were okay between us that “Women are only tools for enjoyment”. He said he divorced his first wife (Saratu) the late 1990 over trust. Saratu who I met once was Folake’s mother, even though they have divorce and the woman remarried, Femi still bang her whenever she visit Abuja as I know in 2006. 21. Femi’s second marriage lasted only five years (1991 – 1995 as I later knew) with three daughters; Oluwatemitope, Oluwatobiloba and Oluwatuminu. He’s divorced second wife Yemisi Olasunbo Adeniji once accused him of sleeping with their first Oluwatemitope(Temi), although she’s no longer his wife, Femi usually demand sex from her which to my knowledge the woman never give in but have slept severally with Femi’s friends and politicall associate. 22. Regina Fani-Kayode (nee Regina patience Amonoo), Femi’s third and present wife have also been accused by Femi of sleeping with his brother Rotimi Fani-Kayode. Regina who had only one daughter; Oluwaremilekun for Femi has been warned by Femi not to operate or open FaceBook account, because Femi thinks she will end up getting dating more young guys on internet. 23. I can state here that Femi’s marriage with Regina will still not last. The lady is also smart and sexually active like Femi. Femi hasn’t divorce her yet because he’s still eating through her as the Lady keeps secret dates with top politicians, makes money and ready to fix Femi too politically. OBJ’s relationship with Femi has been cordial because of this lady who warms OBJ ‘s bed regularly. The same lady has been making personally effort with GEJ for herself and probably for fix for Femi. 24. Finally, I have never banged Femi’s third wife Regina but I can say she’s a nice woman in her good side, though I have enjoyed nice sexual views of her. Seen her being banged by VP and Presido and assisted her many times with her clothes. My problem with them is that they are ingrates. Thanks for their daughters who made me happy several times with their tits, pussy and mouths. There’s no need throwing stone when you have so many glass houses. Nigeria MUST remain One. Those preaching division from south-south and south-East are wasting their time. Source: Hope For Nigeria.

Yoruba Movie Star Fathia Balogun Steps Out With New Hair Style

Aww, she looks good. Yoruba movie star, Fathia Balogun was recently spotted with fast rising actress, Halima Abubakar, at a function rocking a new hair style... Fathia Balogun is the estranged wife of Saheed Balogun, they separated years ago but they are both doing well. Saheed Balogun recently got engaged while Fathia is soaring higher in her career.

Things You Should Never Say To Your Partner During A Fight

Every couple argues, but these words will turn a spat into an all-out-war. Here, the phrases to avoid, and what to do if one passes your lips because hey, it happens. "I want a divorce" In the heat of the moment, it's easy to say things you don't mean, but every expert we spoke with agreed that this statement can't easily be taken back-no matter how many times you apologize or swear you didn't mean it. "Statements like 'I'm done with this' or 'I'm leaving' breed insecurity," explains Judi Cinéas, a marriage and family therapist based in Palm Beach, FL. "I always tell clients that this should only be said if you're ready to sign the papers." So what happens if it slips? Apologize and explain that it will never happen again, but know it might be awhile before your partner fully trusts you. And it also may be time for you to do some soul-searching. If you truly blurted it out in a fit of rage, it could be helpful to work through your anger with a professional. But if you said it because it's on your mind, that's indicative of much deeper issues than the argument du jour. "I'm not mad" So why are you rolling your eyes, slamming doors, and grunting one-word responses to his questions? Because you don't want to be mad, which isn't quite the same thing as not being mad. "Shutting down and trying to ignore our emotions is an incredibly common reaction to conflict," says Lisa Bahar, a marriage and family therapist in Newport Beach, CA. "We want to be accepted and not have people upset with us." Not only that, but sometimes it's hard to know why you're so annoyed-or you might feel silly explaining why his failure to text that he's running late created this reaction, especially if you haven't cared in the past. If you find yourself tongue-tied when your temper flares, it's fine to take a break and talk when you've cooled down-even if it's just to let him know how confused you feel. "You're just like your father" Chances are, you're not saying this because they both do magic tricks or make amazing pancakes-you're saying it to hurt him, and you know it. But this is a low blow for a few reasons. First, by comparing him to his dad, you're expressing that you're no longer seeing him for him. "Everyone wants to be seen as an individual," reminds Cinéas. Second, he likely has tried hard to avoid whatever trait you're bringing up, which will immediately put him on the defensive and ratchet up the emotional stakes in an argument. "You're such a jerk/coward/expletive of choice" Weirdly, name-calling triggers the same vulnerabilities as negatively comparing him with someone else-you're telling him that you no longer see him as an individual, says Amy Johnson, Ph.D., a psychologist and life coach in Detroit. "Not only that, but name-calling is a definite sign that your emotions are coloring the situation to the point where nothing constructive will occur. Fighting while you're in that state is like fighting while you're drunk, or on an hour of sleep-it won't make anything better." Instead, give yourself time to calm down by telling your guy you're going to grab coffee and will be back in an hour. And come home when you say you will-if you don't, they'll be more anger, warns Cinéas. "Look, now the baby is upset, too" Once the crying starts, it looks like you've got the guilt card on lock-but experts warn that it's a dirty hand to play, even if it does make you seem like the victor in the spat. "One person cannot have an argument," reminds Cinéas. If the baby's wailing, it's a sign both of you are getting riled up. Call a truce, calm down the baby-and yourself-and then begin talking through things calmly. Also, if your kids are older, don't claim you're not fighting if it's clear that you are. Instead, let them know you both lost your tempers, but that you still love each other, and you will work it out, because you always do in the end. "You did the same thing last time" Little disagreements become big ones when we bring them up over and over again, reminds Cinéas. "When you've forgiven someone for something, that means that you can't use it as ammunition in a current disagreement." If you find you're continually circling around the same tiny arguments, it could be a sign you should do something different. If he always forgets to wipe down the counters, he's not doing it because he wants a fight-he may not see the mess you do. The easiest option: Take over counter duty and trade him a chore he won't skip. "You're always late" Stewing because he arrived nearly half an hour past the time you were supposed to meet for dinner, again? Well, blurting this out makes it even more likely this will happen the next time, says Bahar. Instead of accusing him-or making it sound like he'll never change-let him know why it's important to you that he be on time, like that you don't want to spend part of your date night in conversation with the waiter. Then, try to enjoy the evening. Later, when neither of you is agitated, you can work together to figure out how to avoid lateness being an issue in the future (i.e. texting him at the moment you need him to leave rather than expecting he'll arrive at the time you suggest). Related: The 8 Biggest Male Insecurities "Why are you mad?" He grunts one-word answers when you ask how his day was, and from the angry way he searches for a snack, it seems like he's ready to have a serious blowout with the fridge. But the more you push, the more likely you'll find yourself in a fight that wasn't there to begin with. "People lash out at those they're closest to, and sometimes their moods have nothing to do with our behavior," Cinéas says. That's not to say you should just let him take out his bad mood on you-and if he's often like this, you and he need to have a serious talk about how he handles his anger-but if he's in the occasional bad mood when he gets home from work, or after his team loses a big game, it's fine to give him a wide berth. If he seems fine a few hours later, drop the subject-once he's over it, there's no reason you should hang on. "You need to talk to me right now" In all likelihood, you're texting or e-mailing this instead of speaking it. But if you're both in different spots and you feel like a fight is brewing, the best thing you can do is hold your thoughts-at least until you can talk face-to-face. Why? Well, for one, neither of you has a sense of what else is competing for the other's attention-like, say, his sister or your boss-and because of that, you can majorly misread each other's intentions. For example, you may think a half-hour without a response means he's ignoring you, but he could actually just be in a meeting. "Agreeing not to fight over email or text is best because then you can work out what you want to say when you get face-to-face, at which point you should both have calmed down a bit," says Dr. Johnson. "This is all your fault "He was the one who said it was fine to get to the airport an hour before takeoff. You wanted to give yourselves two hours, just in case. Now you've both missed your flight. You're furious, but it's not like he's thrilled either. So instead of placing the blame on him, figure out first what you can do to solve the problem, then explain how his behavior made you feel. Saying something like, "I felt like you weren't listening to me, and it was easier to go along with your idea, but I wish I'd spoken up," shows you accept your responsibility in the situation, and also carves a path for a constructive conversation about how to avoid these issues in the future.

2015 ELECTION : Jonathan’s 2015 Ambition Harmful – Alhaji Balarabe Musa.

Second Republic Governor of Kaduna State, Alhaji Balarabe Musa, has blamed President Goodluck Jonathan for the political crises in Rivers State and the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, saying Jonathan’s ambition for second term is harmful to Nigeria. Musa told Sunday Punch that the outcome of the NGF election, where Governor Jonah Jang, who got 16 votes against Governor Rotimi Amaechi’s 19, was recognised by the President as the NGF chairman, showed that Jonathan was determined to return as President in 2015. He said, “The Nigeria Governors’ Forum is a situation which implies the determination of the President to return as the President in 2015. There is no way the President can convince any reasonable and informed Nigerian that he has no hand in the ridiculous rejection of a free, fair and transparent election in which 35 governors participated. “Jonathan’s ambition for second term is a blind ambition that can harm Nigeria because there is no way you can get whatever you want in Nigeria simply because you are the chief executive. Nigeria is not a Banana Republic.” Musa, who is also the National Chairman of the Conference of Nigeria Political Parties, added that the ongoing crisis in Rivers State had its roots in the belief that Amaechi would not support Jonathan’s second-term agenda. He noted that it was for same reason Timipre Silva was denied second term as governor of Bayelsa State. “The whole crisis in Rivers State is about the ambition of the President for 2015 presidential election. The president is not happy with the disloyalty of Governor Rotimi Amaechi. He believes Amaechi, who is from his base-South-South-will not support him for the 2015 election. He had the same problem with the former governor of Bayelsa State, Timipre Silva. It is for the reason he removed Silva. There is no way to interpret the crisis in Rivers State other than in terms of the ambition of the President,” he said. Musa also called for devolution of powers of the President for the survival of democracy. He said recent events in the country had shown the level to which the power of incumbency had been abused. “It is my opinion that especially at the federal level, the power of the executive must be reduced, if not, the thought of democracy in Nigeria will be more fallacious than reality. If anybody who becomes President thinks he can do anything he wants, then we basically have a culture of impunity and we do not have democracy but civilian rule,” he said. - Punch.

Kanye West Depicts Himself Nailed to a Cross for Album Cover

Kanye West has found himself at the centre of a blasphemy row after the animated cover art for his forthcoming album, Yeezus, was leaked on the internet. Fans and religious groups slammed the rapper as a “disgrace” for the controversial album cover, which shows him nailed to a cross. One critic said: “What’s wrong with this Kanye West character, they want to be worshiped that badly? Audacity to name his album Yeezus and make this the cover, just spiralling further into eternal damnation… ” Another wrote: “Only Christianity allows itself as a religion to be mocked and no one will do nothing. Let him try calling his album prophet Mohammed West and see if his Bottom ain’t dealt with” “What a disgrace. He makes me sick,” said another. The end of this dude will be horrible! The backlash came just days after critics expressed anger when West, one of hip-hop’s biggest stars, revealed the name of the album. West, who is expecting his first child with reality star Kim Kardashian, is said to be so certain that his sixth studio album will be a massive hit that he has reportedly banned fans from pre-ordering the record. Yeezus, which is his first solo album since 2011′s critically acclaimed My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, is scheduled for release on 18 June. It features collaborations with industry heavyweights John Legend, Frank Ocean, Tyler, the Creator and James Blake.

Football rumours: José Mourinho to Monaco ?

José Mourinho peers out of his first-class cabin on the boat to Monaco. Photograph: Javier Soriano/AFP/Getty Images Sunday: a Newcastle fan punches a horse in the face. Wednesday: Newcastle want to sign Andy Carroll. Yeah, the Mill sees your game, Newcastle and if you think it's going to be that easy to restore your reputation in the animal kingdom, particularly the equine section, you've got another thing coming. Horses aren't the only ones being offended by the Toon Army though. With West Ham seemingly incapable of making Carroll's loan move permanent, Newcastle have generously decided to step in and make Liverpool's life easier by signing him for … £10m, which is £25m less than they received for him two years ago. Damien Comolli's legacy lives on! Failing that, Newcastle will sign St Etienne's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for £10m instead. Paris Saint-Germain smoothball Leonardo would quite fancy Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney, Nani, Karim Benzema, Yohan Cabaye, Franck Ribéry, Samir Nasri, an invite to Margaret Thatcher's funeral, the moon on a stick, a lifetime's supply of steak, a starring role in the next James Bond film, his own island and José Mourinho. Unfortunately ambitious Ligue 2 club Monaco also want Mourinho and are ready to "blow their rivals out of the water" – which seems cruel and unnecessary – to land him. Mourinho wants £12m a year to return to Chelsea but while they haggle over whether or not he should be allowed to have a solid gold toilet in the technical area at Stamford Bridge, Monaco's billionaire Russian owner, Dmitry Rybolovlev, will swoop. Gotta love those Russian billionaire owners, José! Mourinho's not the only man who could be returning to his old stamping ground. PSV Eindhoven want to rescue children's entertainer Heurelho Gomes from his "Tottenham hell", while Porto are running the rule over Manchester United disappointment Anderson, who has failed to live up to expectations at Old Trafford. Throw in a packet of Haribo and Porto have got themselves a deal. Tottenham have realised that they need a striker. It's only three months too late, but well done all the same. Hamburg's £10m South Korea forward, Son Heung-min is the man they want to fill the space where Emmanuel Adebayor is theoretically supposed to be. André Villas-Boas is also after Porto's Ghana winger, Christian Atsu, and is ready to sneeze up £8m to sign him. Everton and Sunderland are also interested. Can you hear that sound, John Terry? Why, it's the sound of the clock ticking on your future at Chelsea, who are going to spend £20m to sign Vasco da Gama's highly-rated Brazil centre-back, Dedé, who has already played seven times for his country. Liverpool were planning a £15m bid but, well, y'know. Galatasaray want Kerim Frei. That rhymes. Frei plays for Fulham, but not for much longer. Southampton are planning a "double raid" on Cagliari. They want the Belgian winger, Radja Nainggolan, for £15m and could also be in for the defender, Davide Astori. You're nothing without a Belgian these days. The Mill simply must use all its wit and charm to befriend one.

People would say I’m a Short Woman – Nigerian Comedian, Helen Paul

Helen Paul-Bamisail has been a household name in entertainment industry. The Edo State- born comedian, presenter, singer and actress popularly known as Tatafo doesn’t need any introduction. Ask any Nigerian kid and he would tell you that lady who mimicked our voice. The University of Lagos (UNILAG) graduate of Theatre Art is counting her blessing on her baby voice that has brought her to limelight with little or no scandal. In an exclusive interview with Saturday Sun, the mother of one bared her mind on her journey into entertainment as an all-rounder and why the name Tatafo. Background I am from Edo State but born and bred in Lagos. I attended all my schools in Lagos- primary school to the university. I had my Master’s degree and other certificates in Lagos. The name Tatafo Tatafo was given to me by a friend called Matthew. Matthew is someone that is very hilarious. We used to work together at Eko Mix school’s, that’s Eko FM. And most times we sit together and exchange jokes. So, later Matthew left Eko real mix studios and got a job at Radio Continental as a producer. He suggested that I could use this Tatafo thing as a good content on radio. I accepted the idea as longer I would make a living out of it. Sincerely, I just enjoy mimicking people and I mimic not just children, even adults, friends and family. By so doing, I was now able to adopt the baby voice and ever since I’ve been using it. Growing up Very funny, I had an interesting scenario and a lot of fun. I grew up in Fadeyi area of Lagos with my great-grandmother, a strong disciplinarian. Later I started staying with my mum, though she is playful, but at the same time disciplined. She doesn’t need to shout on you or talk too much, with her blinks alone, you already know what she means. Her singing also tells you something, so you should know what to do. I grew up with those things, learning to talk with non-verbal communication. It was very interesting and that’s what made me who I am today. Parents My dad is in Abuja and he is someone who is busy, but my mum is the one I see every time when I need to pay school fees, eat and when I cry. She laughs with me when I laugh. She is always there with me. That’s why I am always fond of her as the only child. Challenges helen-paul-at-the-elegushi-beach-8I don’t think I have challenges in my life. I didn’t actually know I was going to shine. So, I’m always enjoying myself, doing what I like to do best. But I didn’t really struggle. I was actually shocked at a point that I would get this type of attention, audience and love from my fans. Sincerely, I want to use this opportunity to thank all my fans that showed me love and made me feel special. With my fans, I don’t think and feel like coming out faking. I would like to come out real- the way I want to look, talk, dance and jump. They make me work hard and try to give them new things. So, when we talk about challenges really, I am just grateful to God because I’m not always talking about odd moments. If you keep celebrating your past, you will never move forward. So, I only look forward. Marriage I got married in 2010. I met my husband through my boss, Uncle Paul in our office then in Eko FM and we were friends. He was first brother. I used to call him brother, but now I call him by by his name, Femi. For me, I’m just enjoying myself. Anything I feel like doing, I invest in it and tell God about it. I am not thinking evil of anyone, I’ve never thought of destroying anybody’s life nor doing any evil to someone. So, why should my own have any problem? Things would work for me except anyone that is sitting down, thinking of evil and not have time to think of new ideas. I’ve never thought of all that. There’s no way you will be plain with God that things will not keep coming to you. Ideas and concepts would be coming, but when you are there, destroying other people, busy thinking of what you`re not meant to think, of course you will not be able to come out with concepts or ideas. Why celebrity marriages crash No one wants to break up his/her marriage, no one wants to cry. It can happen because there are no rules on how you can stay in marriage. If God is helping you, you thank your God. If it is not working for other people, we have to pray for them that God will help them locate the best person that would make them happy all their lives. It’s not just in entertainment industry that marriage problem comes. No, it happens in other industries but just because we are famous, that’s why people keep shouting that actresses, actors, musicians, comedians and those in the industry don’t stay in marriage. The real fact is that it happens, it’s a normal thing that happens in our society. It happens in the banking sector. It happens to doctors, lawyers, etc. No one wants marriage break-up, no one wants to pull out of marriage. Marriage is a good thing, but you know, it’s not easy coming together as husband and wife. That means you`re thinking of the other person. Scandal Some people always abuse me too. Sometimes when I don’t have time to make up, they abuse me. They would say that without make-up I’m not fine. Some people would say I’m a short woman, but I don’t care because it is not about size. If they don’t talk about you, that means you are no more living or relevant. Programmes I like it. I feel very cool. I just love camera. When I see camera or anytime I see micro-phone in front of me, I’m always excited. Experience doing her job and at the same time pregnant It was not easy, our body is different. For me, I’m a sanguine. helen-paul-at-the-elegushi-beach-6It’s very funny. Whenever I was pregnant, the child would start blowing me when I was on duty. I would caution him not to disturb me, that I am working. I would tell the unborn baby, “You know I’ve tried by transporting you down to Nigeria, so you too behave yourself.”. I took my drugs when I was meant to take them. It’s not easy being a mother. Advice to youths I tell them to keep being themselves, live a positive life and don’t try to please anyone. If someone is wearing Brazilian hair, you wear your three-in-one if you can afford it and carry yourself well. Success is not the way you look, it is what is inside you. If you are joyful and happy inside, the sky is your limit or your beginning. Just keep being yourself and don’t let anyone talk down to you. You don’t try and follow what the society wants you to be. Who does God want you to be? Those are the questions you should be asking yourself. It is up to you to confess it over and over again to yourself that you are a great woman of substance, different from other women. Vision We thank God for the gift of life. The Bible says, “Write the vision and make it clear so that men can run along with you”. So, this is the vision you’re seeing now. I have a bridal shop, I sell ankara, lace fabrics and all stuff. I want God to keep giving me concepts; I pray for more ideas, I pray to get better each year, each time and season. If you cannot utilise your dreams, someone else would use them to utilize his/her own. Crazy experience by a fan My fans are my friends and my love. One of the experiences I had was the day a fan slapped me from behind, out of excitement, but I could not talk. I am sure I cannot take that again. Such a person would be arrested person. Treasure Truth be told, God’s mercy. I value His mercy; I pray His grace should not leave me. Advice by her mother concerning sex and men She told me, “Don’t open your laps for men, they are bad”. Everybody is my friend, I said so, but men are bad, simple. And they are very deceptive. I had it in mind. So, I fought them, I made them my friends and nothing more than friends. Not only men that deceive, women deceive too and women’s own is worse. Most times, I’m the one that breaks their hearts, because I have many male friends. Often, men don’t actually see me as a girl they can toast, rather they see me as a sister. My mind is not dirty, anything that wants to happen would happen, first through your mind. So, my mind is plain and their mind too is plain. It is when one is thinking of evil that evil would come and consume the person. I was a tomboy, so they didn’t see me as a girl, they saw me as a sister. Uti and me My husband is jealous of me and my love Uti. He is my love on Jara show, nobody can take the place of it. Uti is my love, because Uti makes me get money from Jara. I like Uti very well. Music album As I said, every gift of God within me must find expression. I have talent to sing, dance and do comedy. I have talent to sell things, so I am just enjoying myself. Stage fright As I said before, be yourself, enjoy what you do and definitely people would identify with you. Once you are good, people will follow you. People, who wouldn’t want to follow will sit down, so just be you and observe your society. Acting career I act now. My director and producer, Elvis Chuks invited me one day. He said I’m funny and should come and act. I demanded my money and he quickly paid me and I was very happy. When I heard I was going to act along with Funke Akindele, Mama G and Bishop, I was excited. That brought out the joy in me. We did it, so we thank God.

Ribery ruled out of Arsenal clash

The Bavarian powerhouse will be without the France winger in Wednesday's match as they aim to book their place in the quarter-finals Bayern Munich coach Jupp Heynckes will have to do without the services of Franck Ribery for the second-leg of their last-16 Champions League clash with Arsenal. The France international featured for the full 90 minutes in Bayern's 3-2 Bundesliga win over Fortuna Dusseldorf at the weekend and even scored the equaliser to make it 2-2 in the 73rd minute. Nevertheless, he complained about pain in his left ankle after the match, and Bayern have now confirmed that he will not be match fit in time for Wednesday's clash with the Gunners. Ribery's injury is yet another blow for Heynckes, who will also be without Bastian Schweinsteiger and Jerome Boateng due to suspension. Bayern defend a 3-1 lead from the first leg at the Emirates Stadium.

Wenger: We have to believe we can beat Bayern Munich

Arsenal were beaten 3-1 by the Bundesliga leaders at the Emirates in the first leg of the Champions League last-16 tie, but the Gunners' boss insists his side still have a chance Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger insists his players must believe they can beat Bayern Munich in their upcoming Champions League last-16 second-leg clash if they are to stand any chance of overturning the 3-1 loss at the Emirates. The Gunners were blown away by the Bundesliga leaders in London with goals from Toni Kroos, Thomas Muller and Mario Mandzukic giving the Germans a commanding advantage for the return leg at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday. Despite the unenviable task facing Wenger's side, the Frenchman wants his team to pull together and make the "impossible possible" in order to progress to the quarter-finals of the illustrious competition. "There have been a few wins by Arsenal in the Champions League that we are all very proud of. We just have to convince ourselves that we can do it in Munich as well," he told Arsenal Player. "Yes, the chance is small, but the chance makes the impossible possible. That would be a great credit for our team if we do it. We have to try to achieve it. Our mentality is to go there, not resigned, but ambitious and provoke things, not go there and think 'we will not qualify anyway'. No, not at all. "We have to go there and give ourselves a chance to qualify with everybody believing we can do it. We have to behave on the football pitch like a team who wants to do it. That will be the task in the preparation." While Bayern will provide a fearsome offensive threat with the likes of Mandzukic and Muller (as well as Arjen Robben, who is struggling for a starting XI place), Wenger hinted that he will set out his team to get goals from the off. "How will we go into the game tactically? I haven't decided yet," he continued. "It will be with an ambitious plan, that is for sure. We have to try to put Bayern on the back foot; subconsciously anyway, they think they are through and we have to subconsciously think that we can do it. The only way to do it is to have a very positive attitude from the start."

Champions League is the pinnacle, says Carl Jenkinson

The Gunners right-back is in line to play against Bayern Munich and wants to keep his side in the "fantastic" competition that he dreamt of playing in as a youngster Arsenal defender Carl Jenkinson has insisted that he is determined to keep his side in the Champions League as it is "the pinnacle of football". The 21-year-old is in the frame to face Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday in the second leg of the Gunners' last-16 clash, as his side look to try to overturn a 3-1 first-leg deficit after a difficult night at the Emirates Stadium two weeks ago. Jenkinson, a boyhood Arsenal fan, has admitted that he has come to realise that the Champions League is the height of football, and is excited about getting the opportunity to appear in the tournament again. "I've learned and realised that the Champions League is just the pinnacle of football," he told the club's official website. "When I was growing up watching the Champions League, it's the competition you dream of playing in. "The build-up, the song that's played before the game that sends shivers down your spine, everything about the Champions League is just classy. It's where you want to be as a footballer. "I love playing in it. I've been lucky enough to play a few games in it, and I've enjoyed every minute. "I used to go to games when I was younger, and I'd be at school telling my mates I'm going to the Champions League tonight's. It's just a big buzz. "There's such an aura about the Champions League. It's a fantastic tournament and I can't get enough of it."

The Goal Rich List 2013: Rules of Engagement

This list comprises a wealth index of current and active professional footballers, as measured by their identifiable wealth. Those who qualify for the list include Fifa registered professional players of all nationalities in any professional league across the world - or registered players currently without a club, but who are actively looking to sign for a professional club. We attempt to measure only identifiable assets including salaries, length of contract, bonuses, endorsement and sponsorship deals, accounts filed at Companies House, properties and other business interests. We have no access to bank accounts and do not attempt to compromise player privacy in any way. As a result, cash holdings in private accounts are not considered in this research and so actual wealth may vary slightly from the figures we have concluded. Business interests may include stakes in quoted companies as of 31 December 2012. It is much more difficult valuing stakes in private companies. We try as a general rule, to base valuations on the prevailing price/earnings ratio for a sector or an equivalent quoted company. Business interests under the name of a spouse or other family members cannot always be accounted for, but where this is possible these have been taken into account. We do not rely on gossip or other tittle-tattle in compiling this list. Most of the player information has been sourced from public sources such as company accounts lodged in Companies House or international equivalents. We have also drawn upon the expertise of reputable sources such as France Football, Forbes, The Financial Times, Four Four Two magazine, The Times, the Mail on Sunday, sportingintelligence.com, SportsPro Media, Transfermarkt and Deloitte. We have also spoken to and utilised the expertise and knowledge of a number of player agents, marketing experts and club sources. We only use private information about individuals if it has been published already in reputable newspapers, magazines or reference work or is known by reputable sources within the football and related industries, but information gathered from players is not always verifiable with absolute certainty. Where currency values have had to be converted, we have used currency valuations as of 31 December 2012 and we have not included the financial aspects of any deals or renegotiations that players may have enjoyed after 31 December 2012.

Barcelona have a 90 per cent chance of signing Neymar, says Roberto Carlos

The Brazil legend feels the 21-year-old's future lies at Camp Nou and is confident he will fit in well with the Blaugrana's star names Former Brazil international Roberto Carlos believes that Santos star Neymar is destined to join Barcelona at some point in the future. The tricky attacker stated earlier this week that he does not have a preference between the Catalan powerhouse and Real Madrid, but his compatriot has little doubt that he will eventually end up at Camp Nou. "I have spoken with him. He should have left Brazil already in my opinion. I believe that Barcelona have a 90 per cent chance of signing him," Roberto Carlos told Al Jazeera. The 39-year-old then went on to dismiss suggestions that the attacker might not be compatible with Lionel Messi. "He is able to adapt to any situation," he added. Neymar has a contract with Santos until the summer of 2014.

Northerners hold 83 per cent of oil blocks – Senator

AMID a raging debate on the Petroleum Industry Bill, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Business and Rules, Senator Ita Enang, on Wednesday, said that 83 per cent of oil blocks in the country are owned by Northerners. “There should be equity and federal character in the allocation of oil blocks in this country. Eighty-three per cent of all present oil blocks are held by northerners,” Enang said on the floor of the Senate, without any of the senior lawmakers contradicting him. Enang, representing Akwa Ibom North-East (Uyo) Senatorial District, therefore demanded a review of oil block licences in the country even as other senators from the South urged him on. Enang’s disclosures came a day after the debate on the Petroleum Industry Bill had split the senators along North-South lines. The senators held a rowdy session as those from the north stoutly opposed the provision of 10 per cent Host Community Fund in the bill. The provision requires operating companies in the Niger Delta, home to Nigeria’s vast oil resource, to pay 10 per cent of their net profits to the fund for the development of the communities. Strengthening his submission, Senator Enang gave a summary of major oil blocks vis-a-vis their ownership. Enang said Cavendish Petroleum, the operators of OML 110, awarded to Alhaji Mai Deribe of Borno State (North East), makes an average of about N4bn monthly. He said, “Seplat/Platform Petroleum, operators of the ASUOKPU/UMUTU marginal field has Prince Sanusi Lamido (not CBN Governor) as a major shareholder and Director. “South Atlantic Petroleum Limited (SAPETRO), was established by Gen. Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma, who is also the Chairman of ENI Nigeria Limited. SAPETRO partnered with Total Upstream Nigeria Limited (TUPNI) and Brasoil Oil Services Company Nigeria Lomited to become operators of the OPL 246. “AMNI International Petroleum and Development Company is owned by Alhaji (Colonel) Sani Bello of Kotangora, Niger State. They are operators of OML 112 and OML 117. “A former Petroleum minister and former OPEC chairman, Rilwanu Lukman, another northerner, manages AMNI oil blocks and with very key interests in the NNPC/Vitol trading deal. “Oriental Energy Resources Limited, a company owned by Alhaji Indimi, runs three oil blocks: OML 15, the Okwok field and the Ebok field. “Alhaji Aminu Dantata’s Express Petroleum and Gas Limited operates OML 108. “OML 113 allocated to Yinka Folawiyo Petroleum Limited is owned by Alhaji. W.I. Folawiyo. “OPL 291 was awarded to Starcrest Energy Nigeria Limited, owned by Emeka Offor, which was sold by Starcrest to Addax Petroleum. Emeka Offor still has a stake in Addax operations in Nigeria. “Mike Adenuga’s Conoil is the oldest indigenous oil exploration industry in Nigeria with six oil blocks; “Alhaji Saleh Mohammed Gambo’s North East Petroleum Limited is the holder of the OPL 215 licence. NOREASTER Petroleum was awarded blocks OPL 276 and OPL 283 and closing thereupon a Joint Venture Agreement with Centrica Resources Nigeria Limited and CCC Oil and Gas. “INTEL is owned by (Abubakar) Atiku, Yar’Adua and Ado Bayero and has substantial stakes in Nigeria’s oil exploration industry, both in Nigeria and Sao Tome and Principe. “These need to be looked into, revoked and re-awarded. The Federal Character which is a principle applicable in every aspect of our national existence should also be brought to bear in the application of our oil blocks, marginal fields and prospecting licences.” Enang’s disclosures came amid a consensus among the lawmakers on the need to let the bill sail through second reading, while further legislative work would take care of the contentious issues. Enang, who spoke in support of the PIB, also argued for the retention of the 10 per cent host community fund, adding that it did not amount to an additional derivation. Speaking also in favour of the bill, Senator Chris Anyanwu (Imo East) said the bill would address the issue of criminality in the sector. She said, “The element I like most in the bill is the host community fund because it removes the motive for crime. It gives them a sense of belonging and ownership. Until the PIB is ready and people know that their investment is safe, they will not come to Nigeria.” Senator Ayogu Eze from Enugu North also urged his colleagues to support the bill so as allow for the fine-tuning of other controversial areas. Senator Olufemi Lanlehin (Oyo South) argued that Section 191 of the bill gave too much powers to the President, which must be curtailed. Norther senators whose earlier position was outright rejection of the bill have moved to give the bill a chance. Senator Danjuma Goje (Gombe Central) captured the new mood when he said, “I was one of the people completely opposed to the bill but from the trend of the debate it looked like the Senate is ready to do a thorough job without fear or favour. For this reason, I will join others in asking that this bill be considered while the contentious positions are addressed. “It is necessary that the powers of the minister be reduced so that whosoever is the minister is not a super minister.” In spite of this, Deputy Leader, Abdul Ningi (Bauchi Central); Senators Abdullahi Adamu (Nasarawa West); Ahmed Makarfi (Kaduna North); and Nurudeen Abatemi (Kogi Central) raised concerns on the provisions for host communities’ fund. They also expressed hope that the issue would be properly thrashed at the critical stages of the bill. The debate on the general principles of the bill would be concluded on Thursday (today).

While attending IMT he performed at school organized shows and parties, as well as other regional schools such as the University of Nigeria and Enugu State University of Science & Technology. He would move to Lagos and started performing with fellow rapper BlackFace, forming the Plantashun Boyz. He had met BlackFace while attending IMT.[2] He started calling himself "2Face" in 1996. He cited the reasoning as "trying to demarcate my personal life with my business life.[3] In 2006, his song "African Queen" was used in the soundtrack for the film Phat Girlz, which was released internationally.[4] The Plantashun Boyz came together briefly in 2007 to record an album which they titled Plan B.[2] He also released a promotion album in 2008 releasing the single, "Enter the Place". Problems with album distribution in 2007 caused as shift of the release date of the album from 2008 to 2009. Tuface released two singles from the international version of his Unstoppable album and is the first Nigerian artist to have an appropriately priced[5] international album.[6] 2face Idibia released The Unstoppable International Edition album in 2010. Senate seeks return to national development planning

THE Senate has emphasised the need to return the country to the path of national planning, as a means to ensure sustainable growth and development. Towards this end, the upper legislative chamber, on Thursday, mandated its committees on National Planning and Finance to review the current planning linkage and recommend amendment to relevant laws. It also described the current budgeting process adopted by the Federal Government as arbitrary, declaring that the “envelope” system adopted in 2003 by the Ministry of Finance in arriving at budgets for ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) would be scrapped in 2014. The Senate also contended that the current national budgeting process had made the legislature to be less involved, relying solely on the information provided by the executive arm of government. This was sequel to a motion moved by Senator Olubunmi Adetunmbi, who described national development planning as the dominant policy instrument in many low-income and emerging market economies. He said the role of national planning, which once served as Nigeria’s roadmap to development, had been subsumed into the Nigerian budget process. He averred that what used to be a five-year development plan had now been replaced by Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF). Deputy Senate Leader, Abdul Ningi, said national planning would enable a nation to know its standing. In his remarks, Senate President, David Mark, described the motion as one of the most important ones ever considered in the chamber. According to him, national planning had been jettisoned, adding that as a result, poverty and unemployment had continued to be on the rise.

Nigeria Hip hop act, Damino Damoche shot dead at LASU

RISING hip hop act, Olaniyan Damilola, popular known as Damino Damoche, was shot dead on Thursday around 5.00 p.m at the Iba Gate of Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, by people suspected to be cultists. Nigerian Tribune gathered that Damoche was shot in the head twice, after he finished writing a test at the Faculty of Management Science of the institution. The hip hop artiste, who broke to limelight mid-2011, was, until his death, a 400-level Banking and Finance student at LASU. He was said to be working on his next album due for launch in April when the incident occurred. Ngozi Braide, the image maker in charge of the Lagos State police command, cofirmed the killing. She added that the police had deposited the corpse at the mortuary. The Nigerian Tribune gathered that the hip hop act was on his way out of the campus , when some alleged cult guys accosted him and shot him at a close range. The death created panic in the school, as students rushed to the scene to catch a glimpse. A student of LASU, who simply identified himself as Ojo, informed the Nigerian Tribune that “it is not unusual in LASU for someone to be killed before examinations. We know that they will surely kill since we are starting our exams next week.”

Cellphone, toothpaste can give you pimple •Recipes for beautiful skin

Can’t determine what’s triggering your skin breakouts? Well, it’s easy to blame your breakouts on stress or those three slices of pizza you ate last weekend, but that parade of pimples might instead be due to some lesser-known causes of acne. Rachel Grumman Bender compiles five sneaky pimple producers — and find out which acne remedies will clear your complexion. Your cellphone Taking too many calls on your iPhone could cause a pimple big enough to become a topic of conversation all its own. Pressing your cheek and chin against your phone causes pimple-producing oils to collect. Those oils, as well as acne-causing bacteria, build up along with any bacteria already on your mobile. “It’s called ‘acne mechanica,’ ” explains dermatologist Eric Schweiger, MD, clinical instructor of dermatology at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City. “It happens to violinists around the chin and football players with the chin strap — it’s [caused by] not letting the pores breathe, and the repetitive motion causes friction. Now we’re seeing it with cellphones.” Redness relief: Clean your phone regularly by wiping it with the same cleansers you use for computer and TV screens. “When you talk on your cellphone, try not to keep it against your face or on the same side each time,” Dr. Katz suggests. Or simply keep clear by using a hands-free device. Your hairstyling products Styling products may fight frizz and leave your locks silky soft, but they can also cause break outs, called “pomade acne,” along your hairline. “The acne comes from oil-based products and cosmetics,” Dr. Katz explains. “A lot of women don’t realise it’s not always their cosmetics causing the break outs, but their hair product that rubs against their face when they’re asleep. It’s comedogenic, and is like putting oil on your skin.” Redness relief: Look for oil-free pomades and gels (even natural oils can block pores, Dr. Katz notes). Also, scan the ingredients label for other acne-triggering additives, including the emulsifier Laureth-23, silicone and petrolatum. When applying styling products, be sure to avoid your hairline and skin, then wash your hands before touching your face, Dr. Schweiger suggests. Another smart move: Wash your pillowcases regularly. They absorb oil, hair products and dirt, all of which can activate acne. Your make out partner If you can’t pin down what’s triggering your pimples, being cheek-to-cheek with your partner might be to blame. There’s even a name for breaking out after making out — “consort acne.” If your guy is wearing hair gel and you cuddle up, the gel can get on your face and cause acne, according to Dr. Katz. “Or, if someone has a lot of oils in their hair and you’re sharing a pillow, the oils can get on your skin and cause break outs,” he says. Redness relief: Ask your partner to use non-comedogenic products and oil-free hairstyling products. That will help keep the pimple-producing ingredients from rubbing off on your skin. Your toothpaste Although a dab of toothpaste is often recommended as an on-the-spot pimple fighter, some people find that fluoride toothpaste actually triggers zits. “We see this when patients switch toothpastes and notice that they’re breaking out,” Dr. Schweiger says. Ingredients such as fluoride and sodium lauryl sulfate may cause irritation and produce pimples. Your water Hard water often leaves a mineral residue on skin. This film can clog pores and bring on break outs. “There are certain minerals in high concentrations in hard water, which may cause irritation like acne or eczema,” Dr. Schweiger says. Redness relief: Save face by installing water filters or purifiers, such as Jonathan Product Beauty Water Shower Purification System. Filters reduce the concentration of heavy metals in water, which can help prevent pimple-causing residue and irritation.

Fairy tale about FG’s nine new varsities

Though the Federal Government established nine new universities as specialised institutions to serve as models, one year after, except probably for Oye-Ekiti, there are no infrastructure on the site of the institutions to show for money expended, Clement Idoko writes. WHEN the Federal Government announced the creation of nine new universities, the focus, according to the Minister of Education, Professor Ruqayyatu Ahmed Rufa’i, was to make them specialised institutions and models in terms of infrastructure development. The nine new universities established in 2010 across the six geo-political zones, especially in states that had no Federal university are in Otuoke, Bayelsa State; Dutsin-ma, Katsina State; Dutse, Jigawa State; Wukari, Taraba; Lokoja, Kogi State; Lafia, Nasarawa; Oye-Ekiti State; Ndufu-Alike Ikwo, Ebony State and Kashere, Gombe State. However, to the consternation of many Nigerians, no infrastructural developments have commenced on the site of about 90 per cent of the universities, in spite of the fact that funds have been approved for the projects by the Federal Government. President Goodluck Jonathan had approved N1.5 billion as take-off grant to each of the universities and an additional N2billion each for the nine universities for capital development, all to the tune of N31.5 billion last year. Also, about eight of the universities, which have commenced academic programmes, admitted less than 3,000 students. Although, the National Universities Commission (NUC) approved an admission quota of 500 for each of the institution, Education Tribune gathered that the universities could not fill the quota largely because of lack of infrastructure to accommodate the students. Investigation revealed that the ninth University, sited in President Jonathan’s home town, is yet to commence academic activities as a result of the recent flood disaster that ravaged some parts of the country, including the community. The Vice Chancellor of the university located in Otuoke, Professor Bolaji Aluko, who confirmed the development said work was yet to commence on the site of the university because of the terrain. He also explained that he had asked the contractors for execution of projects in the school to hold on for the ongoing construction of access roads on the project site being handled by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). The recent meeting held by the Minister of State for Education, Nyesom Wike, with the ministry officials, consultants, contractors, vice chancellors of the universities and representatives of the NUC and Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) was very revealing. The meeting showed that there was no proper coordination and monitoring of the execution of the projects in the institutions. For instance, Mr Wike was aghast that majority of the contractors, months after signing contract agreements with the Permanent Secretary and the legal adviser of the Federal Ministry of Education have never been to the site of the universities to collect contract documents. In fact, both contractors and ministry officials traded blames on the delay in the execution of the projects, which involved the construction of lecture halls, libraries and administrative blocks. The minister, in his opening remark said: “The vice chancellors maybe surprised at this meeting, but it is the truth; that is the way I operate. For one year now, Mr. President gave approval for projects in the nine new universities and we have been moving from one state to other, but the reports we are getting is not satisfactory at all. “The usual thing, in my experience as I have found out, is that when these things happen, sometimes they blame the ministry, sometimes, the ministry will blame contractors, and sometimes contractors blame those who are the recipients, (that is the universities). When you meet with the vice chancellors, they will give another version because the ministry representatives are not there. Also, when you meet NUC, NUC will give you a different story and when you call the consultants, they too have their own stories. So, what I have decided to do is to bring all of you together because we want to know what the problems are. “Why is it that for one year now that these projects have been approved and I do know that award letters have been given, and the report I’m getting is that 90 per cent of the site, nothing is happening. Some contractors have complained that up till now, they have not gotten the full detail of the drawings and all sorts of stories. So, I want to find out from the universities or from NUC, or that they have done everything and nobody is there to pay them and so the contractors are not willing to do their job or they have refused to cooperate with the universities to make sure that the job is being done. That is why we have come for this meeting. “We are not interested in these stories, theories and so on. Something has to be done because there is no reason to justify that for one year, funds have been made available, approvals have been given, and up till now, we are still talking about processes to start up the job. “Nigerians are eager that we have opened new universities and government is willing to make sure that not only do we open new universities, there must be projects; there should be facilities that people will say yes, not that they have just opened universities, but the government is serious about providing the necessary infrastructure. “Everyday, we are telling Nigerians that government has opened new universities, government has promised this, and people are not seeing anything on ground,” he said. Wike, vowed to apply sanction on any errant contractor or officials of the Federal Ministry of Education found to be involved in sabotaging the government efforts at realising the desired objective of opening up access to tertiary education in the country. It was also discovered at the occasion that funds voted for the projects were actually released by the Tertiary Education Trust to the NUC on January 3, 2013 as directed by President Jonathan. Deputy Executive Secretary of NUC, Mr. Akinbode Agbaoye who represented the commission at the meeting confirmed the release of funds to the commission. What was also revealed at the meeting was that some contractors were ignorant of the provisions in contract award letters requiring them to visit the respective universities to collect their contract documents, which included drawings for individual buildings and bills of quantities. The procurement department of the Federal Ministry of Education in their briefing told the minister that they have had meeting with all the universities and Physical Planning Directors chaired by the Permanent Secretary by first week of December, 2012. According to them, copies of letters of awards, which were given to all contractors, were presented to them at the meeting. “We handed over all the bills of quantities and all the drawings of individual buildings to all the directors at a meeting here first week of December, 2012”. Ministry officials, had also noted that contractors were sent to the universities, but said most of them have come back to report to the ministry that they were not given sites, drawings, and that in some cases the universities would tell the contractors that they were not ready for the implementation. But the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University, Kashare, Gombe State, Prof. Mohammed El-Yakub, disputed this when he disclosed that he has been waiting for the contractors but none of them has been to the university. The minister was angry that while the contractors were told in the letters of awards to go the universities and get the drawings and documents for the implementation of the projects but most of them have refused to do this. Paragraph four of the letter states: “You are to liaise with the Physical Planning Department of the university to collect contract documents within one week of signing of the agreement”. Education Tribune, however, gathered from the ministry officials that the delay in the release of funds for the projects was caused by the initial opposition to the establishment of the universities by the National Assembly until August 2012 when the Senate passed the bills establishing them. However, experts have begun to express concern that the nine new universities might go the way of the other public institutions in Nigeria, where lack of infrastructure have become the major challenge. They gave an example of the University of Abuja, established several years ago but which was temporarily located in a primary school in Gwagwalada, until the current Vice Chancellor, Professor James Adelabu moved most of the faculties to the permanent site along Airport road. This has also partly accounted for the current crisis bedeviling the university over accreditation.
